Who are we?

A campaign to change the way women in the criminal justice system are treated

The exhibition is necessary and important to women in the criminal justice system, commissioners, policy makers, art buyers and all those interested in social justice and penal reform. As well as a significant media attendance, we expect over 10 000 visitors at each venue.
Each venue will host a presentation and a packed programme of events, talks and seminars.
Photo London panels are chaired by Bidisha.
Someone’s Daughter will visit the FiLiA Annual Women’s Rights Conference taking place on 16-17th October 2021. An exhibition of the portraits in the House of Lords will run in October, where we will also hold the conference Care not Cages, looking at alternatives to custody and better sentencing outcomes for women; with a closing event of high profile guests, hosted by renowned journalist and journalist/broadcaster Bidisha.
Individual photographs will be auctioned on Artsy from 1st to  14 September 2021 to raise funds for The View to continue our campaigns for women in the criminal justice system. A second complete set of images will donated to the permanent collection of a national museum. Each woman who participated will also receive a signed print, of her portrait.

Someone’s Daughter X The View Magazine CiC

Through the work of the world’s leading photographers, we will change the lens and shift the focus to clarify how we look at these women, to highlight that which connects us, rather than separates us. The fight for criminal justice reform for women is a long and difficult one that requires systemic changes in legal policy and societal opinions. We must remember that at the heart of the fight are individual women; strong, complex, and creative. Each one unique. Each one Someone’s Daughter.

Participating photographers will be assigned two women to photograph and will use their unique styles in their portraits. The resulting powerful images will form an historic collection of works, documenting women at the heart of justice, the arts, philosophy, academia and activism, to be exhibited throughout the UK. From the heart of creativity at Photo London, within the exhibition halls of a leading cultural institution, to the cradle of our national democracy at the Palace of Westminster these works will embody disparate lives and leave a profound legacy.  One set of photographs will be auctioned to raise funds to allow The View Magazine to continue its fight for women in the criminal justice system. A second set will be donated to a national museum for its permanent collection.

Someone’s Daughter is made possible through the gracious generosity of our photographers.
